Down is divided into down and feather pieces. Down mainly refers to the piece of fluff under the belly of a goose (duck), and the feather pieces have some stalks. The type of down and the looseness of the canopy are also a factor. The down materials on the market today are mainly duck down and goose down. There was no subdivision before, and it was all down. At this moment, it is divided into four varieties: white goose down, white duck down, gray duck down and black duck down.
The best is white goose down (wgd), followed by gray goose down (ggd), again white duck down (wdd) and gray duck down (gdd). The main difference between them is the color. Of course, goose down is better than duck down. White goose down has two advantages: because it is white, it can be widely used in light-colored fabrics, and it is not transparent: the fiber structure is thin, soft, and long, especially the advantages of long fiber make the bulkiness better and better heat preservation. However, duck down is relatively easy to compact due to its short fiber, which affects heat preservation.
